According to the Agency of Statistics under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, by the end of the 1st quarter of 2024, the foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan amounted to $15,823.0 million and increased by $927.9 million or 6.2% compared to the same period in 2023.
Out of the total foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan, exports amounted to $6,384.4 million or 40.3% (an increase of 10.0% or $580.1 million compared to January-March 2023), while imports amounted to $9,438.6 million or 59.7% (an increase of 3.8% or $347.8 million).
As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover for the 1st quarter of 2024 was a negative balance of -$3,054.2 million.
The number of exporters of the Republic of Uzbekistan reached 4,124 in the 1st quarter of 2024, and the volume of goods and services exports amounted to $3,646.0 million (excluding non-monetary gold), increasing by 7.4% compared to the same period in 2023. Non-monetary gold exports accounted for $2,664.3 million or 41.7% of the export structure in the 1st quarter of 2024. Goods accounted for 82.2% of exports, including other goods (including non-monetary gold) – 41.9%, industrial goods – 16.0%, chemicals and similar products – 5.7%, and food products and live animals – 5.5%.
The volume of service exports for January-March 2024 amounted to $1,139.4 million, or 17.8% of the total trade export volume, increasing by 9.6% compared to the same period in 2023. Transport services (46.4%), travel (tourism) (40.0%), telecommunications, computer and information services (6.7%), and other business services (2.9%) make up a significant portion of service exports. At the same time, other services (4.0%) are mainly composed of insurance and pension services (1.4%), financial services (0.9%), fees for the use of intellectual property not classified elsewhere (0.7%), etc.
Machinery and transport equipment (37.5%), industrial goods (16.4%), and chemicals and similar products (12.3%) constitute the major portion of imports.
The volume of service imports for January-March 2024 amounted to $691.4 million or 7.3% of the total volume, increasing by 39.6% compared to the same period in 2023. Travel (tourism) (53.3%), transport services (20.9%), telecommunications, computer and information services (8.2%), and fees for the use of intellectual property not classified elsewhere (5.0%) constitute the major portion of service imports.
Currently, the Republic of Uzbekistan conducts foreign trade relations with 184 countries worldwide.
The largest volume of foreign trade turnover in the 1st quarter of 2024 was carried out with China (19.0%), Russia (17.7%), Kazakhstan (5.9%), Turkey (4.1%), South Korea (3.4%), France (2.1%), Germany (1.7%), Turkmenistan (1.5%), Afghanistan (1.4%), and India (1.3%).
