Results of Uzbekistan’s Industrial Production in 2024: Growth, New Opportunities, and Challenges

The Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has published preliminary data on industrial production for January–December 2024. The total industrial output amounted to 885.8 trillion soums, which is 6.8% higher than in the same period of 2023.

Key Indicators:

  • Number of Active Enterprises: Currently, 55,600 industrial enterprises are operating in the country, including 10,700 (19.2% of the total) in Tashkent city, 6,200 (11.2%) in Tashkent region, 5,600 (10.1%) in Fergana region, 4,700 (8.5%) in Samarkand region, and 4,400 (7.8%) in Andijan region.
  • Contribution of Manufacturing Industry: Manufacturing enterprises produced goods worth 753.6 trillion soums (85.1% of total industrial production).
  • Small Business: The share of small businesses in industrial production increased from 27% to 32.4%.

Main Industrial Sectors:

  1. Mining Industry:
    In 2024, mining enterprises produced goods worth 67.8 trillion soums (7.6% of total output). Growth remains steady due to advancements in mining and primary processing of minerals.
  2. Production of Specific Goods:
    • Coal: 8.17 million tons (+26.2% compared to 2023).
    • Oil: 713.4 thousand tons (-8.5%).
    • Natural Gas: 44.6 billion cubic meters (-4.5%).
    • Gas Condensate: 1.2 million tons (+1.4%).
  1. Manufacturing Industry:
    The main driver of the economy, accounting for 85.1% of total industrial production. The volume of goods produced amounted to 753.6 trillion soums. Significant contributions came from metallurgy, textiles, and food production.
  2. Metallurgical Industry:
    The sector’s share in manufacturing reached 22.7%, with total production volume of 171.4 trillion soums (+6.3% compared to 2023).
  3. Food Production:
    The physical volume index reached 104.5%, and total production amounted to 103.7 trillion soums, reflecting stable growth in demand for food products.
  4. Textile Manufacturing:
    Production volumes reached 89.5 trillion soums, an 11.1% increase from 2023. The sector’s share in manufacturing stood at 11.9%.
  5. Chemical Industry:
    The chemical industry accounted for 5.4% of the manufacturing sector, with total production reaching 40.6 trillion soums (+3.4%).
  6. Production of Electrical Equipment:
    The total output reached 26.3 trillion soums (+4.5%), driven by growing demand for household and industrial electrical appliances.

Localization Program:

As part of the state localization program, products worth 110.2 trillion soums were produced, with exports amounting to $1.14 billion. Over 15,000 new jobs were created under this initiative, highlighting Uzbekistan’s focus on utilizing domestic resources and enhancing national industrial development.

Uzbekistan’s industry demonstrates steady growth, supported by targeted programs and the development of key sectors. In 2025, further advancements in localization, manufacturing, and high-tech industries are expected, solidifying the country’s economic progress.
